past events
The Austin Community Organizer Meetup was an event that provided an opportunity for community organizers to connect and network with each other in Austin, Texas. People involved in social justice, environmental, and political activism were able to meet, share ideas, and collaborate on initiatives to effect positive change in their communities. The event was open to anyone interested in community organizing, regardless of experience level or specific area of focus.
Unified Jam 2022 was a full day of panels and networking with national and local progressive organizers and activists. In March, a hundred community organizers gathered at The Unified Office in Austin, TX to make the world a better, brighter, and more positive place together. The event was filled with back-to-back panels covering policy, organizing best practices, technology, and culture, as well as coffee, lunch, and happy hour (included with supporter tickets and up). With 30 inspiring speakers and a community of progressive organizers and activists, it was a day to remember.
Clothing Swap
Participants were able to bring clean clothes and get clean clothes at the event, at no cost to them. Any leftover clothes were donated to a local free closet or Treasure City Thrift, giving back to the community. Over a hundred clothing items were exchanged and dozens of people from the neighborhood got new clothing items for free.
Nurses Gala 2017, 2018, & 2019
The Recognizing Nurses Gala by the Austin American-Statesman was an annual event held from 2017 to 2019 that celebrated and honored local nurses. The gala recognized the achievements of nurses who have gone above and beyond their call of duty in caring for patients. Each year, the event featured keynote speakers, musical performances, and awards presentations.
TREASURE ISLAND TOOK PLACE ON A ISLAND IN THE MIDDLE OF TOWN LAKE.
Over 200 guests were presented with laser-carved, individualized invitations. On the day of the event they were told to show up to Chicon Collective, divided into teams, and sent to several locations where they were given small clues that slowly led them closer and closer to the shore where boats were waiting to take them to the island.
Once on the island, the guests were able to partake in games, a buffet of food, tea ceremonies, swimming, and dancing.
The guest list was highly personalized, composed of members of Chicon Collective and well-established persons of the community. Set up of the event was done over the course of three days and take down was managed in less than a day.
This event was a collaborative effort. It took months of planning and ten full-time contributors the day of.
Special thanks to Ben Jenks for the immortalization of this event in the video.
WHAT STARTED OUT AS A SIMPLE, SPONSORED HALLOWEEN PARTY BECAME A VIRAL SENSATION.
Over a 1,000 people filtered through the 150 capacity venue and at one point there were hundreds in line waiting to get into this costume-required, Irish-whiskey-fueled throw down.
Over 40 bags of synthetic cobwebs, a food truck waiting in the wings, two live bands (CAPYAC and Red Comet) fog machines, and a replica Irish bar transformed a run-down warehouse into an unforgettable night.
Here's the Facebook Event that made a splash on the Austin scene.
The Eastside Yard Sale put all other Yard Sales to shame.
A bloody mary and coffee bar for everyone who needed a little motivation to get up early, an eclectic mix of your neighborhood treasures, and even vintage clothing vendors like Digsite , Morning After Vintage.
What made this event so unique was our offer to destroy anything that people wanted to be rid of forever, using our handy-dandy community flame thrower.
Just some good old-fashioned neighborhood bonding.
